Jennie Angelina Bravata
October 6, 1930 - May 27, 2021
Jennie was the youngest child, born to Sicilian Italian immigrant parents, Antonio LoPresto and Maria Grazia Capitano. Her given name was actually Giovanna, but the hospital where she was born, unable to figure out the Italian spelling, wrote on her birth certificate “Jennie,” and the name stuck. As a young child she threaded needles for her mother, to help her with the work in a clothing factory. She also enjoyed cooking dinners for the family and continued to be a excellent cook for her husband, children and friends throughout her life. At the age of 8 she had ear surgery and was left hard of hearing in one ear for the rest of her life. In school she became Valedictorian of her nursing program, and used her knowledge to help care for her family when alignments arose. She never actually practiced nursing after graduation because she married her love, Edward P Bravata, at a time when nurses were not allowed to be married. She went on to have two daughters and made them her primary focus for many years. Towards the end of the 1960’s she entered a job as a Librarian for Stony Brook University. Jennie took great pride in her work, and created many happy memories of the friends she made there. She was a happy, energetic woman, who loved fashion, shopping, celebrity gossip magazines, and knowing what her family was doing—at all times. She put great efforts into calling and writing out cards to friends and loved ones for the holidays and special occasions. She had an excitement for life, family, and friends, as well as a strong belief in God. Jennie was a devout Catholic and faithfully said the rosary every night before bed. She is preceded in death, by her parents, husband, all of her siblings, one niece and one nephew. We know she is having a joyous reunion with them now. She leaves behind her two daughters, Pietrina and Grace, three grandchildren, Jennie Michelle, Amanda and George Edward, and one great-grandson
