June 28, 1923 - August 24, 2020
Lena Rubino (Carbone) passed away in peace on the evening of August 24, 2020. She was born the daughter of Luciano and Rose Carbone (Bifulco), June 28, 1923, in Naples, Italy. She is preceded in death by her husband Luigi Rubino, PFC, U.S. Army, in 1975; son, Frank Louis Rubino, Lt Col, USAF, MSC, FACHE; daughter, Roseann Palanek (Rubino); three sisters: Amelia Giametta (Carbone), Josephine Battaglia (Carbone), Mary Puccio (Carbone), and one brother Tommy Carbone, all from Long Island, NY. She is survived by her grandchildren, Francesca Luciana Rubino, Frank Louis Rubino II, Louis Paul Palanek (Christine); by her daughter-in-law, Elizabeth J. Rubino, son-in-law, Ronnie Palanek, Nicole Dawn LaRocca (Palanek), (Chris), and Matthew Dillion Palanek (Darlene). Lena had six wonderful, beautiful, loving great grandchildren, Tristan and Kiersten Palanek; Ava, Jesse, and Christian LaRocca; and Juliette Palanek; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. Lena loved life deeply. Having an exceptional work ethic, she believed very deeply in the value of work, which she did diligently throughout her lifetime as a dressmaker and seamstress for Liz Roberts in Manhattan, New York until her retirement after 65 years. Yet, she continued to work, holding several various part-time positions. She loved dancing, playing cards, gardening, movies, dining at Italian restaurants, her espresso in the morning, and especially bingo. She truly loved her family and it showed throughout her life, especially by cooking and making special dishes that only she knew how to prepare. As a Catholic, her faith in God was immeasurably strong; a faith which remained throughout many struggles in her lifetime. Lena never, ever gave up. She set a fine example for others. More than anything else, she was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. At her request, a graveside service will be held on September 4, 2020, at 11:30 a.m. at the Long Island National Cemetery in Farmingdale, NY, alongside her husband. The Rubino, Palanek and LaRocca families would like to extend their sincere thanks to each and everyone that Lena knew. She was truly a blessing, not only to her family, but many, many others as well. She will be truly missed by all of those who loved and held her so dear.
